In a big shocker for India, India's ace wrestler Vinesh Phogat on whom high hopes were pinned to grab gold being on the cusp of ultimate glory in the Paris Olympic Games has been disqualified from the competition entirely. Vinesh, who was competing in the 50kg freestyle wrestling category, has been disqualified from the competition, for weighing over the limit for her event. Vinesh usually competes in the 53kg category but brought her weight down to 50kg for the Paris Olympics 2024. On Day 2 of her weigh-in, however, Vinesh was found weighing over the desired limit by 100 gms.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat received a warm welcome in her native village, Balali, Haryana. Addressing the media, she expressed that her Olympic disappointment has become a deep wound, which will take time to heal. Phogat didn't confirm whether she will quit wrestling or continue but emphasized that her fight is far from over. "This is a long fight, and we have been battling it for the past year. It will continue," she stated.
