A Hizbul Mujahideen militant and a CRPF jawan were killed and four securitymen injured in an encounter between the two sides in Baramulla district Monday morning.

A Hizbul Mujahideen militant and a CRPF jawan were killed and four securitymen injured in an encounter between the two sides in Baramulla district Monday morning.

Acting on specific information about presence of militants, troops of 29 Rashtriya Rifles, 117 battalion CRPF and special operations group of local police cordoned Palhallan-Pattan, 30 km from here on Srinagar-Baramulla road to flush out the ultras, CRPF spokesman Prabhkar Tripathy said.


He said the militant hiding in a house opened fired on the joint search party initiating a gunbattle between the two sides.



The lone militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit Abdul Rashid Baig of Ganesthan village and a CRPF jawan Amit Tagyi were killed and four securitymen were injured in the three-hour-long gunbattle, Tripathy said.

He said of the injured securitymen, two were CRPF jawans while two others belonged to special operations group of local police.
