La Art Therapy organises a variety of art workshops that you can take your partner on a date to
Fluid art, pottery, candle making, resin art and hand casting are all the workshops you can take part in during a date at this studio
While the classic candlelit wine-and-dine date may have set the bar when it comes to romance, who doesn’t love to mix it up every once in a while? Whether it’s a “paint and sip” session so you can relax the nerves on a first date, or a pottery workshop to awkwardly recreate the iconic scene from Ghost, dates involving art are the newest fad taking the dating scene by storm.
La Art Therapy, an art studio based in Chembur is among the first to bring this trend to Mumbai, offering a range of workshops for couples, including resin art sessions, tie-dye shirt making, candle making, and tote bag painting, among others. The founder of the studio, Mrunali Gala, first decided to offer these workshops after a New Years’ party last year. She says, “Most of us [at the party] were couples.

Instead of going clubbing, we conducted this date night at home, where we preserved our photos in resin. It was such a hit that I felt like introducing something like this for other couples.” If you are celebrating a particularly special event with your loved one, the studio also offers customisations. “If it’s a birthday or an anniversary, we can put up your pictures on a board in the room. We even arrange cupcakes and decorate the place a bit.”

However, if you’re still at peace with the single life and would rather have fun with your friends, La Art Therapy also offers sessions for family and friend groups including people of all ages. “I’ve had many parents bring their kids for these sessions to spend some quality time with them,” she says, “You can even bring your siblings or your ‘girl gang.’”
Pooja Kothari, who took a group of friends for a tote bag painting ‘art date’ at the studio, tells us, “Art dates take us back to our school days, to a time when we were stress-free. None of us were even good at painting, but it didn’t matter. It’s all about feeling relaxed and having a good time with people you love.”
