Mirza enters main draw in Madrid

Sania Mirza qualified for the main draw of the $3.5 million Madrid Open with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Varvara Lepchenko on Saturday.
Sania Mirza qualified for the main draw of the $3.5 million Madrid Open with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Varvara Lepchenko on Saturday. The Indian star converted five of the seven breakpoints she had and served two aces to win her second round qualifying match in the WTA Tour clay court tennis event.
Mirza broke her American rival twice in the first set and thrice in the second, while Lepchenko could break only once, in the first set. In all, the 73rd ranked Indian won 57 of the 94 points in the match, a share of 61 percent, which clearly indicates Mirza's dominance.
Lepchenko also served three double faults, compared to Mirza's none. In the tournament proper, Mirza also features in the doubles with Elena Vesnina of Russia. The duo has won two titles this year already.
