Keval’s maternal grandparents — Naginbhai Shah (68) and Kantaben Shah (65) specially travelled from Ghatkopar all the way to CST by cab to watch him play.

Eleven other family members — father Haresh, mother Neelam, sisters Shruti and Hasti, maternal uncles Bipin and Raju Shah, maternal aunt’s family Richa, Rakesh and Dheer, and cousins Pashva and Pinjal — were also present to watch their staru00a0player.

Keval effected three saves and also scored in the tie-breaker to help his team win via sudden death after both sides were locked 0-0 at full time. Shivanshu Pandey, Keval and Janmesh Keny were on target for Infant Jesus. While, only Naomoan Shaikh and Sarvesh Sharma scored for St Xavier’s.

After the win, Naginbhai said: “It was an emotional moment for me. We just arrived from Bhavnagar in Mumbai a few days ago. He is the first from our family to play at this level and win a title. My sons, Bipin and Raju like cricket.”

Kantaben said: “I don’t have words to explain how I felt today. When the whole team lifted Keval, I couldn’t stop my tears. I was so happy when people came over to ask me if I was Keval’s grandmother.”

An elated Keval said: “I haven’t seen my paternal grandparents, so my maternal grandparents mean the world to me. I was overjoyed to see them travel all the way here to watch me play. The title is a bonus.” u00a0
