Gonzalez ousts Tsonga at US Open

French seventh seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was eliminated from the US Open on Tuesday as Chilean 11th seed Fernando Gonzalez advanced to the quarter-finals with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7/3), 6-4 victory.
French seventh seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was eliminated from the US Open on Tuesday as Chilean 11th seed Fernando Gonzalez advanced to the quarter-finals with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7/3), 6-4 victory.
Gonzalez will play Spanish third seed Rafael Nadal, the reigning Australian Open champion who is trying to complete a career Grand Slam.
Gonzalez is trying to become the first South American to win the US Open men's singles crown in 32 years. He has a 3-6 life-time losing record against Nadal.
A possible semi-final against either Argentine sixth seed Juan Martin Del Potro or Croatian 16th seed Marin Cilic awaits Gonzalez.

"I'm only focused on the next one," Gonzalez said. "I have to play some good tennis and keep my focus."
Gonzalez, the 2007 Australian Open runner-up in his best Slam showing, has not reached the US Open quarter-finals since his first Slam quarter-final appearance in 2002.
