Chavan is awaiting formal clearance from the Indian cricket board since his suspension period is over. He sought MCA’s intervention in approaching the BCCI for his return to cricket. However, the MCA in its Apex Council meeting decided not to intervene. “Since the issue is pending with the BCCI, it would not be appropriate for the MCA to interfere,” MCA secretary Sanjay Naik told mid-day. 

It was suggested in the meeting that Chavan approach the Bombay High Court or the Supreme Court to seek further direction.

Meanwhile, curator Ramesh Mhamunkar was reappointed as consultant for the Wankhede Stadium.

MCA office bearers provided an explanation to Apex Council members Dr Unmesh Khanvilkar and Ajinkya Naik regarding their objections for not following the procedure in coach Amol Muzumdar’s appointment and the matter was resolved. Muzumdar’s remuneration will be taken up in the next meeting.

It was also decided to pay Ramesh Powar Rs 25 lakh for the part he played in guiding Mumbai to their 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Regarding resuming local cricket, MCA will await Maharashtra government’s direction.

The meeting witnessed frayed tempers. Treasurer Jagdish Achrekar walked off from the meeting for a while after an argument with other office bearers.

HC directs MCA to respond

In another development, former MCA president Ravi Savant and ex-Managing Committee member Ravi Mandrekar were not granted interim relief when their plea came up in the Bombay High Court on Friday.

MCA has to file their reply by June 17 and the hearing has been listed two days later. The petition is regarding alleged dissolution of Lalchand Rajput’s Cricket Improvement Committee and alleged misconduct in awarding contracts.
