On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, India cricketer Rohit Sharma urged people to show their love towards animals. He tweeted, "The biggest threat to their existence is mankind. Let's celebrate all there is to love about them #WorldWildLifeDay."

At the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 20 December 2013, it was proclaimed 3 March, the day of signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as UN World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world's wild animals and plants.
