Barcelona star Lionel Messi dubbed Diego Maradona as the best player ever, regardless of the performances of Pele. "Maradona is the best player in the history of football, no doubt about that.

The forward was born and raised in Rosario and played in the Newell's Old Boys youth academy from 1995 until 2000. However, he left his boyhood club for Barcelona long before breaking into the first team at the Argentine side.
