“We could not hold the league for the last two seasons due to excessive rain. So, this time we will start Kanga League a month later to avoid rain,” Vinod Deshpande, Kanga League secretary told MiD DAY yesterday. While the rest of the format remains same, there is a change in point system in case of a washout. u00a0“Earlier, a minimum of an hour’s play or 13 overs had to be bowled to fetch a point in a washout match. From this season onwards, we have decided to give teams one point for being present for the match.

“This is because matches may be possible on some grounds, but at some places play might not be possible due to water logging,” said Deshpande. Kanga League, which began in 1948, is considered to be the heart and soul of Mumbai’s cricket. It is played on Sundays and bank holidays. Nearly 100 clubs participate in seven divisions.
