Amre was among the three candidates apart from Anil Kumble and Lalchand Rajput who were present in person for the interview. Ravi Shastri, Stuart Law and Tom Moody were interviewed over Skype. According to PTI, Sachin Tendulkar joined Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, his other CAC panel members, via video conference from London where he is on a holiday.

Amre was the first to be called for the interview. "I had a simple presentation. It was a good learning experience for me. The thrust of the interview was about taking Team India to the No 1 spot in all the three formats (Tests, ODIs and T20s).
"I gave the example of my experience with the Mumbai team and how I built the team for the future by encouraging talented youngsters. I spoke about the challenges we overcame to build the team. It was a great honour to be among the shortlisted candidates for the interview," Amre, who reached Kolkata in the morning, told mid-day.
In his two stints as Mumbai coach, Amre took charge of a fairly young side. In his first stint where he coached the Mumbai team for five years before he quit in 2010, Amre's team won the Ranji Trophy thrice.
His second stint was eventful as domestic giants Mumbai were stunned by minnows Jammu & Kashmir in their opening Ranji Trophy match of the 2014-15 season. Despite early setbacks and a tough qualification scenario for the knockouts, the young Aditya Tare-led team still managed to reach the semi-finals. The following year the same Mumbai outfit went on to win their 41st Ranji title.
