Stuart Broad produced a vibrant spell on either side of a rain break on the fourth afternoon to decimate the Indian batting and in the process hand England an emphatic innings and 159-run victory at Lord's yesterday. England had begun the day 250 runs ahead in the first innings and despite the gloomy forecast for the next two days of the match, the hosts decided to bat for another 40 minutes on the fourth morning. The declaration eventually came at the fall of Sam Curran's wicket which meant India trailed by 289 runs.
Early blows
Any chance India had of pushing the match into the final day was shortlived as James Anderson had Murali Vijay caught behind off an inner edge for a duck. Anderson then trapped KL Rahul plumb in front with a ball that jagged back down the slope. At 13-2, it was Ajinkya Rahane who had to stride to the crease because Virat Kohli had been off the field during the morning session due to a stiff back.

Rahane along with Cheteshwar Pujara seemed to steady the ship as the pair battled hard for 77 balls. There was the occasional play-and-miss, but both batsmen seemed to getting confident with each minute. The lack of a wicket prompted Joe Root to turn to Broad before lunch and the fast bowler didn't disappoint. In a short span of time, Broad broke the Indian resistance by snaring the wickets of Rahane, Pujara, Kohli and Dinesh Karthik.

Bowling down the infamous Lord's slope, Broad found an extra yard of pace, as the Indian batsmen found it difficult to combat the sharp inswinging deliveries. Rahane pushed at a wide ball that flew to third slip. Pujara had his stumps shattered by one that dipped late. Kohli, battling a sore back, jabbed one to short leg and Dinesh Karthik failed to get his pad out of the way to a full delivery angling towards his stumps.

Jimmy's 100th Lord's wicket
For most the day, all talk was about James Anderson's 100th wicket at the home of cricket, but it was Broad who hogged all the limelight by finishing with figures of 16-6-4-44. R Ashwin showed some resistance with an unbeaten 33, but it was all in vein as India were bundled out for 130. England are now 2-0 up with three more Tests to play. Before Lord's, there was much talk about its famous slope. Now, it's another slope which India are well and truly on, that occupies the mind space of Indian cricket fans.
