Srinivasan, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has been under pressure since the authorities made a spate of arrests related to illegal betting on the tournament earlier this month.

Three Rajasthan Royals players — S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila — were among them and police on Friday night arrested Srinvasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, who has links to Chennai Super Kings.

That has led to direct calls for Srinivasan to step down but he has angrily rejected those, claiming “vested interests” are trying to force him out.u00a0“I have done nothing wrong, there is no reason for people to ask me to step down,” he told a television channel.

“I have seen the media baying for my blood, political parties saying I should resign and various other people also.u00a0“But I have done nothing wrong so there is no question of me stepping down.

“I cannot be bulldozed. I cannot allow the press or others to railroad me.u00a0“There are a lot of vested interests who don’t want me. I am too straight, I follow the rules.

“It may be convenient for some people to not have me there. If someone wants to replace me, let them get elected.”u00a0
