Rahul backs J&K, makes big promises to people ahead of J&K Assembly elections

Highlighting his appreciation for the region`s beauty and people, he expressed a desire for a longer visit. Gandhi reiterated the alliance’s priority of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, criticizing the BJP for their approach of holding elections before addressing statehood. He vowed that the INDIA alliance would press for statehood, regardless of BJP opposition, ensuring it becomes a reality for the people of J&K.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi arrived in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on August 22, accompanied by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. They are set to meet with party workers to strategize for the upcoming Assembly elections, scheduled for September 18, 25, and October 1. During his visit, Gandhi explored the historic Lal Chowk. With heightened security around their accommodations, the Congress party is preparing for the polls and is expected to form an alliance with the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. Gandhi emphasized that restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is a top priority for both the Congress Party and the INDIA alliance. He expressed disappointment that statehood was not restored before the elections but remains hopeful that it will be granted soon, ensuring the restoration of democratic rights to the region`s people.
