The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now handling the case of a female trainee doctor`s rape and murder at a state-run medical college in Kolkata. This decision came after the Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to take over the investigation on August 13. The tragic Kolkata rape and murder case happened on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The court has instructed the Kolkata Police to promptly provide all relevant documents to the CBI. Many doctors who had been protesting about the case welcomed this decision with relief and happiness, hoping that the CBI`s involvement will lead to a thorough investigation and justice.

With the Haryana Government drawing major flak over the Murthal rape incident during the Jat stir in which around 10 women were brutally raped by the agitators, a probe panel formed to inquire reports of rapes during the Jat reservation protests reached the location for further investigation.
