Udhampur Violence: Village Defence Guard Killed In Encounter With Terrorists
Bids to disrupt peace continue in parts of Jammu and Kashmir amid Lok Sabha Elections. In a fresh encounter between security forces and terrorists in Udhampur, another VDG was killed on May 11. A massive search operation was launched while the area has been cordoned off following the gunbattle. Based on inputs from locals, one terrorist has been arrested and sketches of six suspects have been released. A bounty of Rs 5-10 lakhs has been announced for the locals on information of suspected individuals. Security has been heightened across the Union Territory amid LS Polls 2024 to thwart terror bids. Several encounters have taken place between security forces and terrorists in last few weeks in Kashmir. In April, a Rajouri resident was killed in a targeted attack and a few days later a VDG member was shot dead in Udhampur. Earlier this month, an IAF officer was killed in an ambush attack on their convoy by a group of terrorists. As per reports, several terrorists are still taking cover in the thick vegetation across the UT.
Terrorist Encounter in J&K: Village Defence Guard demand automatic weapons
Tension prevails in Udhampur for day 3 as massive terrorist encounter in J&K broke out in the area early morning on April 28. An extensive search operation is on in the area to flush out the hiding terrorists as LS Polls is at peak across the nation. ADGP, Jammu Zone Anand Jain arrived in Dudu on April 30 and spoke with Village Defence Guard personnel and locals. The Village Guard personnel put forth multiple demands including automatic weapons and army training to counter such attacks. One Village Defence Guard lost his life in the face-off against terrorists on April 28.
