Stone-pelting at Ganesh Pandal sparks communal tensions, All accused arrested
Tension surged in Surat`s Sayedpura area in the early Monday morning, September 9, after a group of minors threw stones at a Ganesh pandal. The incident triggered a strong reaction from locals, who gathered outside a nearby police station demanding immediate action. In response, a heavy police force was deployed to the scene, where officers used lathi charges and tear gas to disperse the angry crowd and restore order. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi visited the area and confirmed that six individuals directly involved in the stone-throwing have been arrested. Additionally, Sanghvi revealed that 27 other people who had encouraged the incident were also taken into custody. Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Gehlot assured that all those responsible for disturbing the peace are being apprehended. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure continued peace and security in the affected area. On September 2, AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan alleged that Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials arrived at his New Delhi residence with the intent to arrest him. In response, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the central government, pointing out that the case in question dates back to 2016 and has been extensively investigated by various agencies, including the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), without uncovering any evidence of financial wrongdoing.
