A Florida man thinking he was shooting at a late-night prowler shot his wife to be the day before their wedding.

Winter Springs Police Chief Kevin Brunelle called it a "tragic accident." However, police are waiting for final forensics reports before making a final determination in background.

John Tabutt (62), told the police that he thought he heard an intruder in his home on Friday morning.

He said he got his gun and, upon seeing a shadowy figure in the dark hallway, shot at it. He said that he never thought it would have been his fiancee, who had been in bed beside him.

Nancy Dinsmore (62), Tabutt's girlfriend, was killed when the bullet struck her. The couple were to be married in a small ceremony on Saturday.
