According to cables accessed by WikiLeaks, Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan's former Prime Minister who was assassinated in 2007 handed over a written request to the US Ambassador two months before she was killed asking for help to shore up her personal security because she feared for her life.

The cables reveal that the US chose to look the other way, suggesting that Benazir should work constructively with the Musharraf governmentu00a0-- the same organisation that Benazir insisted was out to kill her.u00a0

Meanwhile, an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) issued contempt of court notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Malik Iqbal for transferring the investigation officer in the Benazir Bhuttto murder case.

The hearing was conducted in the Adiala Jail in Islamabad on Saturday. The special judge expressed annoyance over the replacement of investigation officer and asked why the officer had been changed at the time when he was to submit compliance report over the arrest warrants for former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

On December 27, 2007, Bhutto was killed while leaving a campaign rally for the PPP at Liaquat National Bagh, where she had given a spirited address to party supporters in the run-up to the January 2008 parliamentary elections.

After entering her bulletproof vehicle, Bhutto stood up through its sunroof to wave at the crowds. At this point, a gunman fired at her and subsequently explosives were detonated near the vehicle killing approximately 20 people.
