Where the Lemon in a Chicken is replaced with Peri Peri

A new take-out place at Wadala offers neither authentic Chinese food nor good service, and even mixed up our order. But the guide found out even with all the flaws and dripping oil, the food still tasted yummy

Our country's going places, we know. It's all over the news. Yuppie enthusiasm is rife in the city and the world of marketing is young India's Narnia.

So it's incredibly rare to come across someone who seems so uninterested in satisfying customers. We asked for a menu or even a rough, hand-written list of dishes this place delivers, on the pretext of planning a menu for an upcoming party, and though proprietor, Tavish Bhasin unexcitedly promised to send us one, there was no such list in our package. We didn't even get a follow-up call with an explanatory apology or even just to gauge whether we enjoyed the samples we ordered.

But then, perhaps, Bhasin is satisfied to cater to the office lunch crowd for now. If you do place an order here for your lunch, the good news is, you'd probably find both, the portions and the presentation, amply satisfying.

The Thai curry (Rs 140) was a bit too creamy for our liking, yet Bhasin had kept to his word and eased off the chilies and though the Lemon Chicken he was going to send us, had magically transformed into a Peri Peri Chicken (Rs 110) dish when we got it, all the items were appetising, we found oily, sure, but appetising, all the same.u00a0

Our favourite dish was the Lamb Honey Chilli (Rs 140) and the most disappointing item was perhaps the dessert.

There's a different dessert each day and you can't find out what it is a day before. We got to try the Fruit Trifle (Rs 75), which was a plastic glass, filled to about a third of its capacity with a bit of whipped cream, jelly and chocolate flakes plus a few assorted fruit pieces, the last possibly intended to give the name some credence, we imagine. It wasn't bad at all, actually; it just wasn't a Trifle (unless by, "Trifle" Bhasin was alluding to the size of the portion).

This is value for money, nonetheless, we feel, with a delivery charge of Rs 100, contributing to the final total of Rs 565 for 3 meat dishes and white rice that would serve at least 3 people with average appetites, plus a dessert that would undoubtedly satisfy a supermodel with a sweet tooth.
