The age row of Army Chief V K Singh seems to have hit the Indian army so much so that even its website does not mention his date of birth in his profile.

The Indian army's website indianarmy.nic.in profiles all its the army chiefs till date. Besides, childhood details, schooling and date of their commissioning in the Indian army, the website portrays their distinguished services, various official posts held by them and even their hobbies.u00a0

However, in the case of the current army chief the website mentions about his schooling, commissioning in the army, top posts he held, but does not have his childhood details such as date and place of birth.

It is not immediately clear whether the date of birth from the army website profile was removed after the controversy over his date of birth erupted or it was not there since his profile was created.

Singh has approached Supreme Court against the government's claim that he was born on May 10, 1951 and not on May 1950, which is mentioned in various army records.

The Adjutant General branch, the official record keeper in the army, maintains Singh's date of birth as May 10, 1951 while the Military Secretary branch mentions Singh's date of birth as May 10, 1950.

The controversy erupted last year when the two dates became public following an RTI reply. The army chief has been maintaining that his admission form in Indian Army was filled by his teacher wherein he filled his date of birth as May 1950 erroneously. He claims that he tried to rectify the mistake lateru00a0 but could not. His matriculation certificate shows his date of birth as May 10, 1950.
