The rupee today depreciated by 4 paise to 46.84 a dollar in opening trade on increased demand for the US currency from importers.
Dealers said demand for dollar from importers weighed on the Indian rupee. The dollar's gains against other Asian currencies and fears of capital outflows from domestic stock markets also impacted negatively the sentiment, they added.
The rupee had ended 5 paise higher at 46.80/81 against the dollar in yesterday.
