Aspirants prefer jeans to shorts saying Delhi is unsafe for women

The new batch which is going to join the Delhi University's fashion clan plans to change its trademark shorts and tees this summer. The newcomers prefer jeans and kurti as most of them are not keen on grabbing eyeballs.

The youngsters say they will dress up for college while keeping in mind that the city streets are not safe for women after a string of incidents were reported in which college students were attacked in the recent past. Cotton kurtis, khadi apparel and linen trousers accessorised with jholas will be more in the campus.

It's all in the jeans
"I will rather wear jeans instead of shorts when going to college. One cannot travel wearing shorts these days in public transport," said Nidhi Thakur, a DU aspirant who had come to collect forms at Jesus and Mary College.
"My sister is studying in St Stephen's and her style statement was different when she had joined college. She dressed up in trendy shorts. But I don't feel the same this year," said Shweta Pandey, another DU aspirant.
"When I entered college, I used see most girls came wearing shorts. But the trend has taken a 360 degree turn as security has become our main concern. Thus, fashion has taken a backseat," said Ambika Khanna, a second year DU student.

"I prefer lighter fabric and comfortable clothes during summer. To beat the heat I have added cotton apparel to my collection of clothes," said Snigdha Jha, who is looking forward to join college in some days. Even parents are happy about the changing trends. "Children are free to wear whatever they want but they should keep in mind that Delhi is not safe while deciding what to wear. Kurtis and jeans are the best option in the current scenario," said Shilpa Sharma, a worried parent.

Fashion quotient
I think people should be imaginative and their dressing style. Wearing shorts and hopping on Delhi buses is absolutely not advisable. What young college students can go for is rather light weight summer jeans, capris, cotton and voile full sleeves kurtas. Jholas are a great idea. Students can use old jeans to make bags outu00a0 of them.
