Candidates make a last-minute beeine for the Collectorate to apply for now mandatory domicile certificates to be submitted before end of month

The insistence by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) that MBA aspirants produce state domicile certificates for admissions to colleges in the city has sent applicants scurrying to secure the same. The certificate has to be submitted by May 31.u00a0

As an upshot of the directorate's sudden demand, the collector's office has been inundated with MBA aspirants. An agent who helps applicants with the paperwork said: "There has been a huge rush in the past few days, not only by students of standard X and XII, but also by those who appeared for the MBA entrance test. Everyday we get more than 20 to 30 applicants."

Students, who were anything but amused, by the add-on to the MBA admission process, said it was unnecessary. Amit Kamalapure, a student who had appeared for CET, said: "I had applied for the certificate a month ago, but it was rejected. I have applied again but I am not sure if I will get the certificate in time. Should I prepare for group discussions and personal interviews or run after the certificate?" Nehal Pandey, another student who had appeared for CET said: "I am worried I might not be able to get the certificate in time. I had applied for it a couple of weeks ago. I hope the cut-off date to submit the forms are extended by a week."

Though the DTE had introduced the rule last year, it was scrapped after students protested. Jayashree Katare, sub- divisional magistrate and in-charge of CFC at the district collector office, said: "There is definitely a huge rush but it's not uncontrollable. Last year, we were getting around 1,500 applications per day, but this year it's around 900. Students do not understand that work will be easy if they apply early, as they will get the certificate within seven days, until and unless they are rejected or there is some query."

Dr D K Mahajan, Director, DTE, said students were asked to submit domicile certificates in February itself. "There is no chance the dates will be extended because the students had ample time to get the certificate made."
