Plead residents of Kohat Enclave haunted by thieves who mock them after stealing
Kohat Enclave, one of the most posh societies in northwest Delhi, has been for the last one month haunted by thieves and chain snatchers who mock them after stealing their belongings. There have been around 15 cases of snatching, thefts and house breaks in the past few weeks.
A bike-borne snatcher struck Sarabjeet Kaur, a teacher, on January 14 at around 8:30 pm when she was going to the nearby metro station. Her bag, containing two mobile phones and Rs 3000 in cash, was snatched away. The guy stopped at a distance and smiled at her before fleeing.
On the same night thieves broke into four cars and took away stereos.
There are also families in the colony who have fallen prey to the thieves more than once. Sunil Dewan, who lives in house number 135, said:u00a0 "On December 24, my wife was playing with our children outside our house when a young boy came and snatched her chain. The chain was worth Rs. 8000. Before that some people took away stepney tyre of my scooter." Dewan's next door neighbour, Priya Arora's mobile phone was snatched on January 10, when she was entering the colony.
The thieves did not spare even inverter batteries. Tarlok Singh, president Kohat Enclave RWA said, "The thieves and snatchers are striking at will twice in a week. The police insist that we should register a case of theft even when it actually was a case of snatching. The Station House Officer of our area had assured us that at least four policemen would be posted in our area."
Singh added that two weeks ago, two cars were stolen and found deserted later in Model Town and Saraswati Vihar. "When we went to register a complaint, a police official told us that since the car had a CNG kit the thieves could not keep it with them. I do not know the reason behind the conclusion but actually both cars ran on CNG," Singh said.u00a0
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West), Narender Singh Bundela said, "I cannot reveal what steps we have taken to stop the thefts. As of now I can only say that we have deployed adequate police in the area."
