Tannery Road residents ponder over regular bills issued by BWSSB, though they seldom see water flowing through their taps
Over 100 residents of Tannery Road receive regular water bills, but the irony is that they are being billed for water that never flows through their pipes.
When and if it does, like it did two days ago, consumers complained that the water was murky and contained sludge from a newly bored tube well in the vicinity.

They have been on the warpath with the local corporator and officials of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) officials for over a year now.
Armed with several copies of complaint letters about the issuance of regular water bills though no water is being supplied, the residents finally got a bore well commissioned on Sunday.
Their joy however was short-lived, as the water flowing from the taps was contaminated. Silt and sludge has somehow entered the existing pipelines and the whole area suffered.
Mohammed Mastan a resident said, "I have been getting water bills though department officials never check whether we are receiving regular water supply. Still, they send us bills like clockwork."
Paying the price
Local Corporator Noor Jahan said, "They objected to a storm water drain being built, now they are paying the price. When it rains or silt from bore wells accumulates in the area, they finally come to me with complaints. I am trying my level best to sort it out with my own money."
Residents allege that the BWSSB officials have turned a blind eye to their complaints. Mohammed Zia, a resident who runs a tour and travel business in the locality said, "We have been running around to revamp the system here, but when we approached the engineers they expressed helplessness."
BWSSB engineer Gopal Gowda said, "I will look in to the matter and ensure a regular supply of clean water is resumed. As far as the bill matter is concerned, that is the minimum rate for usage."
