After the cloudburst in Ladakh last year, the place, which used to attract the maximum crowds observed a much-lower turnout due to collective fear. As a special tribute, a group of travellers titled Wanderers are exhibiting 75 photos of Ladakh that they have clicked over the last few months.
The club is based in the Thane region of Mumbai and was formed in 2003 to promote amateur creative photography.
More than 112 members have been part of it since its formation and the members visit various Himalayan regions and exhibit their work. Their latest exhibition promises to clear all misconceptions that have been formed because of the cloudburst.
Atmaram Parab, founder member of the club, mentions that they are emotionally attached to the place. "We have been there often over the years and know many people. We have a strong connection with the place.
After we noticed a general fear among the people who have started avoiding going there, we thought of an exhibition to promote the spot again."u00a0
He adds that people have a notion that nothing has been restored after the attack and the club aims to prove them wrong. "The place has been restored soon after the cloudburst and we want to show them that it now looks just like Ladakh did in the past. We went there for a trip a few months ago and captured images of nature, human life, culture, tradition, monasteries, rituals of worship, lakes, rivers, high altitude passes and wildlife," he states.u00a0
The club only allows amateur photographers to join and the club also organises workshops on technical issues.
The participant photographers have included Narendra Prabhu, Girish Gade, Manav Dave, Viraj Naik, Vasudha Madhavan, Nikhil Phatak, Satish Joshi and Atmaram Parab.
