The earlier DP for the old city areas was drafted in 1982 and was passed in 1987. While it expired in 1997, it was extended for 10 years, and since then only 20 per cent of the works had been completed. In 2007, the civic body sought another extension from the state government, which set a deadline of December 2010 for a new DP. In October 2012, the city improvement committee had approved the 20-year DP from 2007 to 2027.

“We will ask the state government to grant us more time so that we can suggest the changes. If the state government would not give us time then we will hit the streets in protest,” Fadnavis said.
