The Pune Municipal Corporation has released a list of 505 polling booths that have been declared sensitive.

The Pune Municipal Corporation has released a list of 505 polling booths that have been declared sensitive. Of the 2,996 polling booths in the city 505 booths and 100 establishments, which include schools and colleges, were identified as extremely sensitive, said Election Officer of the PMC Pravin Ashtikar.

The civic election is taking place today for 152 seats in the city. The fate of as many as 1,181 candidates from different political parties will be decided in the polling. "Tadiwala Road, Golwarkar Guruji Primary School in Aundh, Taljai basti in Sahakar Nagar and Pandav Nagar on Ghole Road are some of the sensitive areas in the city where adequate security arrangements are to be made," said Ashtikar.

He also said that about 10 per cent EVMs have been reserved for the process of civic polls in the city and along with Election Sciences Institute's (ESI) representatives, 28 PMC engineers have been deployed to the 14 ward offices to take care of the EVMs' functioning.

"There will be only one EVM for the two different candidates from the same panel. In one polling booth there will be one control unit and one to three ballot unit according to the number of candidates in that particular panel. Additional EVMs will also be provided as per necessity," said Ashtikar.

The Election Officer said that counting would be done tomorrow at 14 venues. "It will start at 8 am and by 2 pm the picture will be clear," said Ashtikar. The voting will start at 7.30 am and will end at 5.30 pm. The right to recall or right to reject candidates in the election will not be there.
