“We performed coronary angioplasty and a drug-eluting stent (DES) was placed in the blocked artery. Since the other blockage was moderate, we concluded that it could be managed medically.” The Hospital administration also expressed shock at Ahluwalia’s actions. “It surprises me how the patient and his relatives can behave this way with hospital staff who have saved his life by providing him timely treatment. It is a serious issue, and we are going to take stern action against him,” said Rekha Dubey, chief executive officer of the hospital.

Meanwhile, Ahluwalia too held a press conference reiterating his allegations that he was beaten up, and overcharged for a surgery, which was not required. He also lodged a non-cognizable offence with Hinjewadi police station against the hospital’s security personnel who he alleges assaulted him when he protested.

“I conducted a medical check up at Aundh civil hospital and the report clearly shows that I was beaten up black and blue, and on that basis I have registered a complaint with Hinjewadi police station,” said Ahluwalia.

D D Jagdale, assistant police inspector at Hinjewadi police station, said, “We have taken Ahluwalia’s complaint and will investigate his claims.” He added that in regards to the written complaint by the hospital wherein they have alleged that Ahluwalia ran away without paying the Rs 4.70 lakh bill, Jagdale said that the matter will be sent to the public prosecutor for legal opinion and the case will be referred to Sassoon hospital, where a committee of doctors will examine the case and submit their report. u00a0
