Imagine not having to deal with reams of paper the next time you meet your lawyer or move court. With top lawyers demanding the introduction of technology in the judiciary, looks like getting stuck in time-consuming processes is soon going to be passe.

New software like AVOCAT that offers seamless support for case, practical, financial and knowledge management, has come as a boon for law firms.

Tech-intake
Judiciary forms one of the most important pillars of a democracy. So to empower it, one needs to take upgrade it with the help of technology. "Technology can help in bringing down the number of unsolved cases in the lower courts. It is disheartening that despite India being an IT major, technology has not touched the judicial system in the least," says Vikas Gupta, senior advocate. "Our Prime Minister or any other senior must be able to scrutinise the proceedings of the lower courts and keep a tab on everyday affair," he adds.

Many lawyers feel that post the Telgi scam which cost the exchequer crores of rupees, the judiciary must do away with the stamp system. This way the mediators who make money by forgery and fake stamps will be eliminated. The entire system should be computerised and only those who are involved with the case should be able to access information, making it impossible for touts to operate.

Where's my money?
The issue of court fee can be sorted once the system is computerised. The fees can be directly deducted from the accounts of the lawyers with the help of a specially designed management system. This will also help in avoiding corruption. Technology will also bring in transparency and accountability in the lower judiciary and the performance of the judicial officers can be open for scrutiny.
Legal experts say that technology can help fill up the loopholes in the system. Case management will become easier. Technology helps manage and collaborate activities at multiple locations and saves time. Above all it is easy and
affordable.
