Delhi University students have reason to rejoice as the Central Placement Cell (CPC), on its second placement drive, had about a thousand students registered on November 8. For the first time, the placement session was inclusive of the physically handicapped (PH) category students as well.

The session, held at the Conference Centre in north campus, was a long affair. Opened by the vice-chancellor, Prof Dinesh Singh, in the morning, the drive went on till evening. Companies like Teach for India, Naukri.com, Jaipur Rugs and Akash Institute had come to select students for the various suited profiles.

All-inclusive!
"We are doing it for the first time as students from the backward categories are always left out of the job sector. They too study under the same umbrella, why not have the same benefits then?" said deputy dean, students' welfare, Gulshan Sawhney.

Out of those registered and present, 22 were selected by Naukri.com to come back with their designated profiles, while the other three took back resumes of selected students. When asked, G S Tuteja, deputy dean, students' welfare, on the rate of companies willing to come in the present economic slowdown, he said, "The economic slowdown has not affected the companies to come for campus selection. It has been a rather good beginning in terms of the number of students and companies involved in the session today. They will come back in the third drive to filter more students for recruitment."

Meanwhile, the CPC has organised another session with a Japanese company on November 29 to offer jobs in the field of marketing and merchandise. The company will pay the recruited students while they are on training, and will finally place them internationally, depending upon the performance.
The CPC has been approached by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and other companies like, HCL, HDFC Bank, Wipro, Dell, Gandhi Fellowship, among others. Last year, the CPC had placed more than a thousand students.
