Mumbai can expect another round of chilly weather next week, say meteorologists. However, after enjoying the coldest night of the season on Tuesday, with minimum temperatures dropping to 14.8 degrees Celsius (lowest this season), temperatures are expected to rise after January 26, meteorologists have hinted.
Talking about the forecast for the next few days, Rajesh Kapadia, climatologist from Vagaries of Weather, a popular private weather blog, said, “Mumbai will witness dry weather and cooler nights on January 25 and 26. Day time temperatures will hover around 31 degrees Celsius, while night time temperatures will fall to around 15 degrees Celsius. Thereafter, temperatures are likely to start rising from January 26, with days getting hotter.”
Due to the influx of northerly winds, the financial capital experienced a pleasant week, as stated by an IMD official. Speaking to mid-day, the official remarked, “The city is currently enjoying pleasant weather due to the prevalence of northerly wind components. Although temperatures are expected to rise in the next two to three days, we expect the weather to remain enjoyable.” Meanwhile on Wednesday, Mumbai’s Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 15.2 degrees Celsius and the Colaba observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 18.5 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s air quality has also shown improvement. “With the strengthening of winds and the onset of North West winds this month, Mumbai has experienced a notable enhancement in the AQI (Air Quality Index). The AQI recorded throughout the city reflects a relatively stable and tolerable air quality in the city,” stated Kapadia. As per CPCB’s SAMEER app, the overall AQI of Mumbai recorded on Wednesday was 99 (Satisfactory category. Except Deonar which recorded an AQI value of 222 (poor category) all other stations were either in the satisfactory or moderate category.
