A Juhu doctor landed in trouble after he urged citizens to stay indoors amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the city. On Thursday, as Mumbai reported over 5,000 fresh COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Municipal Commissioner I.S. Chahal assured people that the situation was under control and there was no reason to panic.
According to a report in Times of India, after Chahal's statement, a Juhu-based doctor took to social media and requested people to stay away from offices and social gatherings. The doctor even asked people to avoid vaccination centres for the next few days.
"All Mumbaikars, especially those in the K West ward, should stay at home for the next few days," the doctor stated in his post. According to sources, local ward officials of the BMC asked the doctor to pull down his post and urged him to not spread such messages as vaccination is one of the central public health strategies to keep in check the spread of COVID-19.
When asked about his comment, the doctor said, "I have been told to not discuss the matter with anyone."
