The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday asked Mumbaikars to “take care and avoid outings” in the city due to the prevailing dry and hot weather conditions.
An IMD official pointed out that the temperature in Mumbai was “already reading 37 degrees plus” on Saturday a little after noon. “Easterlies are prevailing, raising the mercury. Humidity levels are as low as 20 per cent, making it dry heat,” said the official. The official said that the interiors of Maharashtra, extending up to Vidarbha and, Nagpur and Raipur, had experienced “intense rainfall” on Friday, accompanied by lightning and thunder.
“Last night it rained at many places…which is what is keeping the weather cloudy in the interiors today,” he said, adding that southern Maharashtra, as well as Goa and Karnataka, will also witness a similar cloudy weather pattern. “However, we are not expecting any significant change in the weather in Mumbai. The night temperature is expected to go down.”
The official explained that the reason behind the rainfall in the interiors was due to moist air and dry air meeting over the Vidarbha regions, leading to convection and development of thunder clouds.
