In what could become a major embarrassment for Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, two senior-level officers and a clerk from the Urban Development (UD) department, headed by Chavan, were arrested by officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking a bribe of Rs 50,000.
According to the complainant, a deputy commissioner in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) who was suspended in the past, three UD officials -- deputy secretary Anandrao Shravan Jeevane, desk officer Uday Singh Gokul Singh Chavan and clerk Subhash Ambaji More -- demanded Rs 1 lakh from him for forwarding the order of his reinstatement in the PMC to Pune municipal commissioner.u00a0
The complainant was against bribing the trio and approached the ACB on September 27, following which officials laid a trap and arrested the three red-handed.
The complainant, along with his two colleagues who were also to be reinstated, had been doing the rounds of Mantralaya for last two months so the order papers could be sent to the PMC commissioner at the earliest.
Prior to that, the PMC commissioner had already written to Jeevane on August 8, asking him to forward the papers to him as an internal enquiry proved the complainant innocent.
Allegations had earlier been levelled against the complainant of misusing his power as one of the deputy commissioners in the PMC. u00a0
