In a bid to stop the corrupt activities of railway policemen who allegedly demand bribes from passengers, the Mumbai wing of Anna Hazare's organisation, Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan-Andolan Nyas, approached railway authorities and asked for a room located between platform numbers 7 and 8 at Dadar station to be closed down. According to the organisation, the small room, in which policemen change their clothes, is used to extort money from passengers.



"We have observed their modus operandi and found that they stop passengers who are running late for their trains and take them to this room to inspect their baggage. Passengers often cough up huge sums of money to avoid missing the train," said Bhavesh Patel, president of the organisation. The activists were assured by the police that the room was shut down for good in the afternoon. However, when MiD DAY's photographer Satyajit Desai visited the station last night, he found that the room (above) was open again.
