It's quite common to see scores of traffic policemen inspecting vehicles at various junctions since the 26/11 terror attacks. While motorists can be heard complaining about the hardships caused to them because of the nakabandis, the police are only doing their job.
The Mumbai police are being extra vigilant after receiving more than 100 hoax intelligence reports about imminent attacks in the city.
The reports are received from central intelligence agencies like the Research & Analysis Wing, Intelligence Bureau, Coast Guard, military Intelligence and naval intelligence. The state intelligence department and the Special Branch also provide vital information to the police.

"On an average, we receive two intelligence inputs every day. Sometimes even more. Every information is being verified,'' said a senior crime branch officer.
Police sources informed that some of the intelligence reports warn of seaborne attacks, others relate to aerial strikes by enemy planes. Some reports also warn of terrorists travelling by road to Mumbai.
Sensitive information from Pakistan is routed through Additional Secretary, Research & Analysis Wing, to the National Security Council. The same information is also passed on to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Joint Intelligence Committee and to the armed forces.
The police are taking no chances after the hoax calls and apart from the regular security measures, they also deploy personnel on deserted beaches after receiving an alert. Nakabandis are ordered at short notices after the police receive tips about terrorists travelling in a car.
