The officials from the Powai Police analysed the technical clues including the CCTV footages from different locations and zeroed in on the suspect who was later identified as Zakirhussain Fasate, 23, a driver by profession.

"After zeroing on the suspect, a team of police officials laid a trap in Powai area and nabbed him for further investigations," an official said.

The police said, during investigations, it was found that Fasate was allegedly involved in multiple vehicle theft case and he had been involved in four previous auto rickshaw theft cases registered with the Powai Police. Further investigations reveled that he had a similar offense also registered against him at Vikhroli Police station.

"With his arrest, the police have solved as many as five theft cases registered against him and have also recovered as many as five stolen auto rickshaws," the official added.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police on Tuesday said that the Deonar Police in the eastern suburbs of the city was successful in tracing as many as 25 recently lost or stolen mobile phones from their jurisdiction and returned the recovered phones to their original owners. 

According to the police, the Deonar police had received multiple complaints of lost or stolen mobile phones in 2023. The police began to trace the phones and were successful in not only tracing the phones but also recovering them.

The police said, the senior police officials guided the team of officials to trace the lost or stolen mobile phone. The officials including police officials from Deonar Police and the cyber crime cell managed to use the technical clues to trace the phones.
