The artist and the muse

Nivedita Poddar, founder of Art Fervour, tells us, “Warhol’s take on Pop Art speaks on the significance of consumerism in the 1960s; his works comment on the over-commercialisation of society, the over-idolisation of celebrities which in turn commercialises them. Shot Sage Blue Marilyn is a pinnacle of pop art, it embodies, in a holistic sense of his work, his depiction of stardom and explores the relationship between fame, fashion, sensationalism, consumer society. The painting was made two years after Monroe passed, and looks at a society in which individuals become products.”

Poddar explains, “Pop art is fun and accessible because it’s easy to consume something familiar. It has been thoroughly used in our current visual culture.”
