Indie label Nrtya will celebrate turning five with a festival of art, music, and fashion on Saturday
A previous event organised by Nrtya
Art lovers can slip into their clubbing gear this weekend. If you are looking for one party to sate your cravings for independent music, art, and thrift store shopping, you may want to head over to Bandra. The venues of Veranda and Club Pandora, will host a celebration that combines all these attractions under one event.
Sharan Punjabi, co-founder, Nrtya, sounded off the fifth anniversary celebration of the independent label saying, “Nrtya Culture Showcase is a confluence of art, culture, fashion, and music,” he said. Rishab Sharma’s sitar will partner with Mohini Dey, Gino Banks and Rhythm Shaw to produce a live jazz set at the Veranda. If you seek something more high tempo, head to the basement for performances by Tre Ess, Kayan, and Diversion Ahead.

Club Pandora is the place to be for house and techno music lovers. With Film, Blurry Slur, Tansane, and Nigel in attendance, the evening looks promising. Shaw hinted that the music will be exciting. “Being associated with Nrtya from the beginning, I can’t wait to get on stage with Gino [Banks] and Mohini [Dey] and play all the original compositions from my released and unreleased music specially for this day,” he said.

Who will win the Punjab Elections?
It is not just music that marks the highlight of the event. The celebration will see a congregation of artists and fashion labels as well. Punjabi informs us that the venues will also house works by 20 to 25 participants, from photographers to graphic artists, as well as a veritable bazaar of indie brands and thrift stores.
There’ll be fashion at affordable prices, Punjabi promises. “The work, in terms of price point, is very accessible. Prints range from '500 to '2,000. You get to visit an art market, experience a fashion brand, or depending on your taste, you can go experience jazz, or at Pandora, experience a mix of house and techno,” he points out.

Artist Yash Pradhan concurs, adding, “The way it is organised helps put the light on a mix of upcoming and experienced artists from different cities, with the best part being Nrtya not charging for any fees either to showcase or from any sales made.”
The goal, as Punjabi tells us, is to bridge the gap between formal and casual art culture. He says, “To put forth this art community, without burdening them with any sort of stall fees or commission fees.” With similar showcases planned across Bengaluru (April 9), Delhi (April 16to17), Hyderabad (April 23) and Chandigarh (April 30), the celebrations for this label are just beginning.
