Mumbai boasts of several caves including Kanheri caves, Mahakali caves and Jogeshwari caves, which are historically significant and pertain mainly to Buddhist and Hindu history.
Interestingly, these caves were a refuge for monks and priests and a spot to meditate and study.

The Mandapeshwar caves, which were located in Borivali, were destroyed by the Portuguese and in its place you can find Mount Poinsur.
