The 43-year-old choreographer-filmmaker is taking the dance franchise forward with the upcoming movie and said the script required actors, who could easily get into the skin of professional dancers in the movie, slated to hit the screens on June 19.
"The first film had non-actors, so I made them act. For the second one I wanted somebody who could perform as the main lead is a very strong character in the film. I wanted an actor who could perform and dance at the same time... I could think of noone but Varun. Shraddha came into the picture after Varun," Remo told PTI.

The original film, released in 2013, starred Prabhu Deva, Ganesh Acharya, Kay Kay Menon along side dancers Salman Yusuff Khan, Dharmesh Yelande, Lauren Gottlieb, Bhavna Khanduja, Punit Pathak and others.
"ABCD" was unanimously praised for being a complete dance film, which gave the audiences a treat of variety of dance forms. Remo said he may have taken stars for the second installment but the main ingredient of the movie remains to be dance.
"They (Varun and Shraddha) behaved, acted and danced like any other dancer. When you watch the film, you will realise that they are not stars but characters, who are part of the story," he said.
Varun has displayed his moves in his previous films like "Student of The Year", "Main Tera Hero" and "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya". However, Shraddha is yet to showcase her dancing skills on-screen but Remo said he was impressed with her when she came for the rehearsals.
"People said she can't dance. When she came to the rehearsal hall, she said 'you can test me'. She showed her dancing skills, so we took the decision and she came in," said the director, who has earlier helmed "FALTU".
The Disney film is based on the real-life story of a group of dancers from Nalasopara, near Mumbai, who participated in the World Hip-Hop dance championship in Las Vegas in 2012.
"The story prompted me to make the sequel. I was doing the post-production of the first movie when I came to know about the story. It is a beautiful journey that they had from a small town to Las Vegas. I decided to make a film on it and that is how 'ABCD 2' happened."
The director is confident that his latest project will be a success and said he is sure that a third film from the franchise will also roll out.
"This is a franchise film. I want to continue with it.
Let's see what response we get. I am sure I am going to make a third film," he said.
Remo is currently busy with the post-production of "ABCD 2" and spending sleepless nights thinking over the performance of the film after its release. But once the film hits theatres, he will shift his focus to his next venture "Flying Jat", starring Tiger Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandez.
"The film will go on floor in the end of July.
Considering Tiger's moves, I am going to make him dance, fly, do lots of action and he will be in a never-seen-before look."
