Former West Indian cricketer Sir Vivian Richards chose to skip the India VS South Africa match on Saturday to spend an afternoon in the midst of Mumbai's fashionable. His daughter, fashion designer Masaba was showcasing her collection, and unlike most times when mother Neena Gupta is seen seated on front row, this time Richards and Gupta were both in attendance.

Actress Kareena Kapoor was front row attendee, as was Amrita
Arora and Imtiaz Ali.

Also seen rooting for Masaba were Bollywood babes Mugdha Godse and Jacqueline Fernandes. Govinda's daughter Narmada Ahuja, emcee Manasi Scott and cricket fan and television host Mandira Bedi.

While that may be an iconic Bollywood line, we think it's befitting the Hindi film industry's most discussed costume designer Manish Malhotra. Chikankari, Kashmiri embroidery and Rajasthani Gota work dominated the collection that Malhotra showcased at the ongoing Lakm ufffd Fashion Week on Saturday evening, and we couldn't help but feel like we'd seen hints of it before. Malhotra presented a line of Indian eveningwear, and kicked off the show with a few menswear pieces crafted in jute, brocade and Tusshar silk.

Bare-chested models flaunted Chikankari jackets paired with Kashmiri shawls. Kurtas worn over jodhpurs and slim pants carried subtle embellishments. The colour palette moved from ivory to sky blue. The first womenwear piece to walk the ramp was accompanied by "oohs" typical of the dramatic audience that drops by for his shows. It was a lehenga-choli bathed in white, with a hint of gold visible under the translucent layers.

Chikankari made a repeated appearance on sleeves, collars, blouses and lehengas. Semi-transparent empire line jackets and kameezes revealed intricate Gota work along the bodice and hems of skirts. Malhotra's shows are usually frequented by the heroines he dresses. Saturday was no different. 'Good friend' Kareena Kapoor sat in row one wearing a dazzling white Manish Malhotra creation (what else), while director Imtiaz Ali, singer Hard Kaur, and by-now-former actress Amrita Arora kept her company.

Anand Kabra presented a line to complement the new looks created by Lakm ufffd. Free-spirit, designed for independent women, is a choppy, short bob with outward flicks. Kabra dressed up the girls in saris with shirt-blouses and belts.

The Creative look was about long, layered tresses. The clothes for this line were fitted at the waist and gradually opened up into a flare. Printed jackets with leggings in shades of browns, worn with fitting knee-length dresses, made up the look.

Sensuous brought back memories of sirens. With a deep, sweeping parting and outward curls, the Sensuous woman was about oomph. Kabra interpreted the look to add a shroud of mystery to it. Deep reds, maroons and blacks formed most part of this indulgent line.

Masaba can't do without mix-n-match, and this collection too was about patchwork and bold prints. Modified jumpsuits and saris combined with bizarre headgears spiced up the show. The overall mood was one of a casual summer afternoon. But one couldn't help feel a sense of deja vu. She is a couple of seasons old, and from here on she'll have to come up with something better than footprints on a dress if she wants to be known as a designer and not a famous mother's daughter who tried making a career in fashion.

And Sachin gatecrashed LFW
This was the scene when Sachin Tendulkar hit his 99 international century at a match between India and South Africa on Saturday evening. Press photographers and journalists were glued to the television screen just minutes before the evening show was to kick off in the main show area.

One for the man
Vivek Karunakaran made up for what's been missing at fashion week so faru00a0-- a few good pieces for the guys. While Karunakaran had only a few garments for the men in a line-up dominated by the ladies, his ecru silk single breasted jackets, fitted silk organza shirts and orange cotton linen hemmed pants were just what a busy head-honcho would want to pack for a leisure trip. He offered jumpsuits, stylised hem dresses and sundresses in sheer georgettes for the women.
