Despite not having a major star cast, last weekend's new releases Vicky Donor and Hate Story have registered decent numbers at the box office over the weekend, piggybacking on their content
Previous releases Housefull 2 and Titanic 3D continue to register decent occupancy as well in their third weekend.
Pegging the first three days numbers of Vicky Donor at Rs 7.75 crore and Hate Story at Rs 6.6 crore, trade analyst Komal Nahta says that both will register profit from the second week onward.

A still from Hate Story
“Vicky Donor will make money faster thanks to its strong word-of-mouth praise about the novel subject and the humour. Besides, it has got a good price for satellite rights,” he says, adding that the Akshay Kumar led Sajid Khan film has already done R 100 crore net business in India by Sunday.

Incidentally, both the new releases started slow. As Prakhar Joshi, programming head of a multiplex chain tells us, “After starting with 35 per cent occupancy on Friday morning, Vicky Donor saw the numbers double up in the evening and night shows. Saturday saw occupancy go up to 80 percent while Sunday witnessed over 95 per cent occupancy,” he says.
Looks like the bold content is working very well for the Paoli Dam starrer Hate Story. According to Nahta, the bold subject, sex and dialogues have ensured it works well in the single screens. In the same vein, Girish Wankhede of another national multiplex chain, says that while Hate Story might have not got a great positive buzz, the audience has liked it. “The word of mouth wasn’t negative.”
Neither of the two Hollywood releases Mirror Mirror and 21 Jump Street made any impact. A well-placed senior executive of a multiplex chain said that they witnessed around 20 per cent occupancy. “The positive reviews didn’t really help higher ticket sales for the Julia Roberts film. As for 21 Jump Street, the collections are no different either,” he said on condition of anonymity.
