SITAL is an initiative started by the Parivar organisation of Bay Area, USA, and the LGBT Asylum Project. They focus their efforts on the Indian trans, hijra, intersex, third gender, and non-binary communities all round the year, but during the pandemic, they have been working towards ensuring that these communities are provided medical support and supplies. They are present in 44 districts in 14 states across the country and are scaling up continuously. They distribute food kits which cost R800 and contain rice, wheat flour, lentils, cooking oil, and spices as per availability and allocated budget. Their health kits which cost R200 include masks, medicines and hand sanitisers. They also provide details of shelters, senior citizen centres and legal support for the community in cases of emergency. They work with the support of donations.

Covid relief for slums

ARASTU Sharma and Supriya Bansal, graduate students at the University of Cambridge, started this initiative to assist families living in slums. They aim to create a supply network that will help slum dwellers get medical supplies and nutrition. They have based their programme on NHS’s Covid protocol telemedicine system. Volunteer doctors and psychiatrists are assigned to cases to provide proper medical guidance.
