The rivalry between Mumbai-based Aditya Mehta and seven-time World Champion Pankaj Advani has existed for more than a decade. Yesterday, Mehta proved his supremacy over Advani by registering a 7-5 win to lift the Asian Snooker Championship title in Doha.
This win makes Mehta only the third Indian to clinch the title after Yasin Merchant and Alok Kumar.u00a0“Pankaj is a tough opponent. Our face-off was quite entertaining as we know each other’s game well.

The one who executes the tactical move on table best, wins it. In Doha, it was no different. I haven’t lost to Pankaj in the last two years, but five years ago, he had a huge advantage over me. Earlier, I defeated Pankaj in the semi-final of the Asian snooker championship in Dubai, so this win is special,” Mehta told MiD DAY from Doha.u00a0
Mehta was delighted to win the Asian snooker trophy for India after a gap eight years. “I am really happy to end my amateur stint with a gold. My ultimate aim is to beat Yasin Merchant’s ranking of 65 on the professional snooker circuit,” added Mehta. u00a0
