The head of the Libyan military council said that Colonel Moammar Gaddafi was killed Thursday as fighters battling the vestiges of his fallen regime wrested control of his hometown of Sirte after a prolonged struggle. The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff were killed in a rocket attack on Tuesday in the Libyan city of Benghazi, a Libyan official said.
