Firecracker blast in West Bengal, nine dead

At least nine persons died and two were injured on Tuesday in an explosion at an illegal firecracker unit in the Egra block of West Bengal’s East Medinipur district. SP of Medinipur said that ‘Illegal firecrackers were manufactured in the factory. Earlier, police had raided, seized & filed a case against the factory. 9 bodies were recovered & the search operation is on’. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered an inquiry by the Criminal Investigation Department into the incident. BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding that the National Investigation Agency should look into the case.
