“They both knew each other and lived in the apartment for over six months. This morning at 10 am the owner of the apartment noticed that both were not present at the workplace and were not answering phone calls. He then came to the place and found the door to be closed from inside. On checking the balcony he found a hanging body and informed the police. The police then barged inside by breaking the door and found two bodies. We were unaware of the incident and heard no shouting voices. Saddam was mentally unstable and had attacked someone in the area with a blade before,” said a neighbour.

A relative of Ayyaz questioned the owner for allowing Ayyaz to share the same room with someone suffering from mental issues. “During lockdown, he left his education and came here with me to earn a living. He initially stayed with me, however, he then shifted to another house. On the night of February 20, he came to my place to have dinner, played with my children, and went back to his room to sleep. At 10 am I received a call and they told me that Ayyaz was dead. I am in a state of shock, he never complained about Sadam. However, his boss knew about Sadam’s condition and he should not have allocated the same flat,” said the relative.
